What’s been happening in the eventing world?

No photos sorry, but some good results for New Zealanders competing in eventing.

There’s been plenty of eventing on around the world. Here in New Zealand the various squad riders had a good training camp in Taupo, and the South Island Pony Club riders are doing their last-minute preparations for this coming weekend’s Springston Trophy.  Internationally, there were some big events on.

Nations Cup, Waregem

Germany won the Nations Cup at Waregem in Belgium, from Great Britain and France. There was no New Zealand team in this event. The German team was Stephanie Bohe, Leonie Kuhlann, Fraziska Keinki and Andreas Dibowski. Riding for Britain were Izzy Taylor, Tom Jackson, Laura Collett and Jodie Amos.

In the CICO3* class, it was a win to Stephanie Bohe on Haytom, who led after dressage and held on to her lead after four faults in the show jumping and 0.4 time across country.

Izzy Taylor was second on Frog Rock, who has, until very recently, been owned and campaigned by Annabel Wigley. Caroline Chadelat from France was third on Kadessia. New Zealander Megan Heath was competing, and finished 30th on Camelot after 10 faults in the show jumping and 16.8 cross-country time faults.

South of England International

In Sussex, at the South Of England International, there were plenty of New Zealanders out and about.

In the Intermediate class Q, Blyth Tait had a good win on Darius IV, adding just 6.4 cross-country time faults to his dressage score. Lucy Jackson on Willy Do was ninth in the same class, with Sir Mark Todd on Landslide 11th and Andrew Nicholson 14th on Byrnesgrove First Diamond. In the other section, Andrew was second on Yacabo BK, with Sir Mark 10th on Dusk Till Dawn.

Lucy Jackson had a win on Mrs Browns Boy in the Novice Section M Class and Hollie Swain finished ninth on Scarlett Tamarind in the Novice Section I class.  Bruce Haskell was fourth in the Open Novice Section N on Blame DHI, with Lucy also finishing sixth in that class on Superstition II.  Amazing Spy, a New Zealand-bred and -produced horse, was fifth, ridden by Victoria Leabeater.

Aske International ODE

Caroline Powell headed off to the Aske event in North Yorkshire, and took out a trifecta in the Novice class. She won on Silvermoorhaylage Ollie, was second on Silver Touch, and third on Stracathro Solitary Mistral. Good to see Caroline continuing with her grey theme…

Happy Birthday, Lesley

The Prices had the weekend off, and sprang a great birthday surprise on Jonelle’s mum, Lesley, taking her off to a wee holiday in Sicily! She didn’t know where she was going until she got there, so great preparation and implementation of a cunning Price Plan!
