Plenty of Bugs in the lineups at Tauranga

Emma Gaze, Woodland Bug on their way to a good win

Emma Gaze and her “Bug” horses had a great time at Tauranga racecourse today as they competed in the North Island show jumping championships.

Emma produced the only clear round in the Let’s Bale North Island Pro Am class over 1.20 – 1.30m on Woodland Bug, and she followed it up with the fastest four-fault round on her other horse, Fire Bug, to take second as well. Tors Rattray put in two good rounds but with a rail apiece on Lafayette CSNZ and Versace NZPH she had to settle for third and fourth. Sally Clark was fifth on the striking Victoria’s Secret.

Emma nearly pulled off the win in the morning’s Collinson & Co Horse 1.20m on Jitterbug II but was just 0.18 slower than the speedy Sinead Dolman and Kiwi Lansing who blitzed John Vallance’s course.

In the Prue Cruise North Island Lincoln University Junior Rider Series, seven were faultless in the first round, but only two managed to back this up with another clear. It was a convincing win to Keean Cooper on Double J Angelic. They jumped well and fast, with some great corner-cutting, and their time of 37.10 was not bettered.

Ally Carson on her young horse Letano put in a careful but slower round, finishing second. Matthew Irvine gave it his best shot on Lansbury Grove and was doing well on the time but a rail put paid to his chances and he had to settle for third.

In last night’s jumping, on a beautiful Tauranga evening, it was a win to Katie Laurie with Dunstan Breeze, and she also was third on Dunstan Springfield. Quango, ridden by Mathew Dickey, finished second.
