Christmas craft: door hangers

For our second horsey Christmas craft project, we are making a simple but stylish door hanger, using an old bit.

DOOR HANGER

Most riders have a collection of bits they no longer use. Their bright, metallic finishes set off with a sprig of greenery make a quick and easy decoration for your front door.

Materials

Large snaffle bit

Bell

Greenery, winter berries or poinsettia flower

Pinecones

Wire ribbon

Crafting wire or pipe cleaners

Sharp scissors

Small jewellery pliers

Instructions

1 Wash the bit thoroughly in warm soapy water, scraping off any accumulated grime (or run the bit through your dishwasher).

2 Attach the bell inside the bit ring using crafting wire or a strand of pipe cleaner. Keep in mind that the bit will be hanging lengthways, so you need to attach the bell where the mouthpiece joins the ring, so it can hang down in the middle. Cut off any excess wire.

3 Using crafting wire, attach the greenery. Then wire on some little pinecones (you could spray paint them gold for extra effect) and tie a bow at top of ring. Lastly, hot glue or wire on the poinsettia flower (or winter berries).

4 Hang your transformed horse bit on a door handle and enjoy the magical jingle of Christmas bells every time someone comes through the door.
