Stunning setting for Springston Trophy

This must be one of the most perfect places for a cross-country course, but first the riders had to get through the dressage phase of the Springston Trophy.

The Springston Trophy is under way, with the dressage phase completed at the Ward Domain. The event moves a little north tomorrow with the cross-country set in the most stunning of locations, in among vineyards and close to the coast, near Seddon, Awatere Valley, Marlborough.

The course, built by Robbie McLean is magnificent. Many of the jumps have spring flowers all around them and the ground seems to be perfect – not too hard, not too soft – and the weather looks like it will play the game. And the views…. Check out our photos of the course below to get some idea.

In the first section of the Senior class, Charlotte Edwards riding Facade from Nga Tawa Gold leads on 26pen, with Isabella Ashworth (Halswell) riding Mr J F Hawk second on 26.1. Eyreton Navy’s Kirsty Jacomb and Glenmark are third on 27. In the second section, Brodie Roberts has the lead riding SR Livingston with a score of 27.5. Georgia Helms (View Hill Red) on Eyredale is second on 29.1 with Ciara Rayne (Springston) riding Captain Jack third on 29.8.

In the first section of the Intermediate class, Niamh Rayne on My Hallucination leads on 27 (Springston) with Zoe MacClure on Rednalhigh Hayman second (Pleasant Point Maroon) on 27.6. Lucy Cochrane and Inspector Gadger from View Hill Red are third with 30.8.

In the second Intermediate section, there is a draw at the top of the field. Jordan Shrimpton on Mister Puzzle (View Hill Red) and Grace Hyslop on Ace of Hearts (Pleasant Point Maroon) are both on 26.8. Emma van Vianen on Ka Pai Kiwi (View Hill White) is third on 29.6.

In the first of the Junior sections, Katherine Hadler and Hakuna Matata (Springston) lead with 29.3, from Charlotte Thomas and Picollo (View Hill Red) on 30.3. Josefin Lerbs and Penelope are third with 30.9 (Waimea team).  In the second section, Halswell’s Lucy Baker and Smart Spark are leading on 27.6. Laura Hare and Yandina from Nga Tawa Gold are second on 29.7 and Dan Harkerss is third with Double J Yippee on 29.7.
