Dark-coated flaxen

These blonde-maned stunners have liver chestnut or almost black coats. This Black Forest Horse is a particularly glamorous example.
Giraffe pattern

Seeing is believing! Isn’t she beautiful? This mare has a rare coat patterns that’s also called lacing or cob-webbing. We think giraffe is the best name though! Imagine riding one of these on an African safari?
Silver dapple

Dappled grey coats are a firm favourite, but a silver dapple is just to die for! So is the glorious young Gypsy Cob who is modelling it for us here.
Splashed white

Splashed whites are part of the ‘overo’ family, and look as if they have had a bucket of white paint flung at them from below. Many of them have blue eyes, and unfortunately, the pattern is associated with congenital deafness.
Medicine hat

Medicine hat is a rare type of pinto where the horse has a mostly white head and neck but a brown or black patch covering the ears and the top of the head; in Native American legend they were believed to have magical abilities.
Brindle

This coat pattern is quite common in dogs, but extremely unusual in horses. It’s occured in thoroughbreds, but is usually connected to an Appaloosa gene.
Champagne

Just like the sparkling beverage, there are several types of champagne, all with mesmerising eyes. This one is an amber champagne, but there are also golden and ‘classic’ champagne coats.
Pearl

Not Perlino, actual pearl. This colour is similar to champagne, but has a special gleaming sheen, and is very rare. It’s most often found in Iberian horses.
Grey (or mouse) dun

This colour is also called grullo, and is a smoky kind of grey, and can be found in specific breeds such as the Konik of Poland, or Germany’s Heck horses.
Chimera

Not really a colour, but a genetic rarity – a chimera is the result of an embryo that started out as twins then merged into a single foal, with two sets of DNA and two coat colours!
