The weekend’s eventing wrap

Catherine Taylor & Coljoy won the 1*Plus

There was eventing in muddy conditions in Ireland and there was eventing in muddy conditions in Waikato but what’s a bit of bog for kiwi eventers! We are not sure what the conditions were in Waregem, Belgium but they must have been good for Caroline Powell who won the CIC2* on Flipper K.

Well done Tim Price who had a good win on Pats Jester in the CCI3* class at Ballendenisk horse trials in Ireland, in very wet conditions.

Adding 8 cross country time faults and four show jumping faults to their dressage score, the pair finished well ahead of Elizabeth Powers (Mind Me). Fellow New Zealander Jesse Campbell was third on Amsterdam 21 who also jumped clear but added 24.8 cross country time faults. Ben Hobday is now riding Jesse’s Kaapachino and was one of only two clear rounds in the cross country, but once again, the showjumping was Kaapy’s downfall, where 29 faults were added and they finished in fourth place.

Sam Watson (Ireland) took out the CIC3* on Ardagh Highlight, with Blyth Tait third on Dassett Courage after adding 4 show jumping penalties and 9.2 time faults. Izzy Taylor was second on Frog Rock, a NZ thoroughbred previously ridden by Anabel Wigley. Jonelle Price and Faerie Dianimo had a good run, adding 12.4 time faults on cross country to their score to finish in fourth place. The pair are aiming for the Pau four-star class later in the year so it was a great run in what were awful conditions.

Meantime, back in the wet Waikato it was all on at the Wade Equine Coaches Spring Horse Trial held at Waikato Equestrian Centre. The sun did make a welcomed appearance.
