Ingrid Klimke has announced that she is retiring SAP Escada FRH from competition. The lovely mare was in the lead at the Event Rider Masters competition at Wiesbaden recently, but had a unusual run-out near the end of the course.  Ingrid reported that a thorough veterinary examination after the event revealed that Escada had aggravated an old injury. She had missed both the Rio Olympics and Badminton in 2016 because of a ligament injury.

A broodmare career now awaits Escada. Ingrid says,”Her self-assured appearance and, above all, her lovable nature are what distinguish our ‘Diva’. These qualities are good prerequisites to become a Supermama!”

The 13-year-old Hanoverian is by Embassy out of Lehnsherrin (by Lensherr) and is owned by Madeleine Winter-Schulze, the German Olympic Federation for equestrian sport (DOKR) and Andreas Busacker. She joined Ingrid’s stable in 2012 after three years with Andreas Brand, who gave her a basic education and got her jumping with confidence. Ingrid describes her jumping style as very elastic, supple and sweeping, and her personality as self-confident and brave. “She just gives her best and knows she is special. In dealing with her, she is very sensitive and fine. She shows us exactly what she wants.”

When she first joined Ingrid’s stables, a lot of work went into her dressage; it took time and many dressage competitions to get to where Ingrid wanted. “By consistently and quietly repeating the tasks on different quadrangles, she became more and more obedient. In jumping and off-road, she is simply fantastic to ride and plays with all tasks. With her space-grabbing gallop it is pure joy to gallop around a cross-country.”

Among her wins are the 2014 CIC3* at Marbach, the CCI4* at Luhmühlen and the Nations Cup CIC3* at Aachen in 2015. She was a member of the gold medal-winning German eventing team at the World Equestrian Games in Caen, France.

We look forward to seeing the foals that this lovely mare will produce. As yet, there has been no suggestion of which stallion will get the honour of siring her offspring.
