Rotorua Pony Club winners at Timberlands

The iconic Timberlands teams event was on again in the weekend.

Great to see the Timberlands pony club teams event being held again this year in Tokoroa after being held in Taupo last year and not at all in 2015 due to a drought.

The Wayne Challenge Trophy for the winning team went to Rotorua, whose members included three of the Amon family! The Turnout Cup went to Kumeu/Timberlands/Otorohanga.

It’s this fun attitude and good team work that won the combined team of Kumeu, Timberlands & Otorohanga the turnout prize. They were also third overall. (Image: Take the Moment)

The Founders Cup was presented for the first time this year. It is in honour of the original founders of the competition, the Boyce, Fife and Symes families, who set up the event in 1982, and is judged on the best average team score for cross-country. It was won by Tauranga/Whangarei.

Second overall, Pointways also won the prize for the best average dressage score. (Image: Take the Moment)

There was a new cross-country course designed by Bing Allan and built by Cullum Boyce on on Cullum and Mandy Boyce’s property, so it’s good to see that the Boyces are still involved!

Dressage and show jumping were held on the first day, which turned out really hot, with the show jumping course designed by Sooz Wright. And it was a nice touch that ex-pony club members acted as mounted marshals.
