Rose Alfeld’s My Super Nova really was super today at a wet McLeans Island when he took out the Country TV Horse Premier League, sponsored by Kinloch Farms. The pair jumped the only clear in the first round and then incurred two time faults in the second, probably because he was jumping so high over each fence!

Chris Harris had a rail in the first round and then produced a lovely clear on his Glenbrooke Archie Bunker, and Kimberleigh McCabe finished third on Kace after a good final round.
Rose heads north on Tuesday to take on the Grand Prix and the Premier League at the series final in Wairarapa and hopefully finish the season on a great note.

Harry Feast won the Jagermeister Trophy for the Canterbury Grand Prix Series on Double J Bouncer. The Canterbury series is decided on the most points from the Labour Day show, the Christmas Cracker and Canterbury Champs. Libby Sellar was on hand to present the trophy.

The ponies once again put on a superb display. It could have been anyone’s title, with three jumping double clears, but it was Rosa Buist-Brown’s weekend, and she won this as well as her other good win at Hagley Park on Friday night on Junior Disco. The times in the jump-off were very close, 33.21, 33.80 and 34, with Grace Manera (Rednalhgih Cowan) and Steffi Whittaker (Moonlight Glow) having to settle for second and third.

Rosa, who had also won the speed class in the great Jump for Cancer event at Hagley Park on Friday night, and won the Canterbury GP series, says this is her last show of the season. “Being the last show, I wanted to go out with good results. Hagley Park was awesome, and it was nice to take the jumping to the people.” Admitting she does get a bit nervous at times, Rosa says that at Hagley Park, in front of the big crowd, she was determined to ride well. “I said to myself, just do it, forget about the people, do a clear round.” Disco now gets a break for the winter, and although Rosa isn’t sure what she will get up to, she is looking forward to next season already. “I want to win the Pony of the Year,” she says. She has two more seasons on ponies and Disco is only ten now, so look out for this pair next year!

One pair who will soon be going separate ways are Steffi Whittaker and Moonlight Glow. ‘Blaze’ has been sold and will be heading to the North Island to his new home, but Steffi has one more show with her beloved pony, as she will be riding him at the Glistening Waters Jumping Championship. While she had to settle for third in this Grand Prix, she and Blaze still had enough points to win, for the third year in a row, the Jiminey Cricket Cup for the Canterbury Pony GP series. Steffi recalls riding in her first Grand Prix at McLeans Island in the pouring rain five years ago, so it was apt to have her last one on another wet day. When she finally parts with Blaze, there will be more moisture… in the form of tears. How much will she cry? “Too much,” Steffi says.

The Tavern Harewood Horse Mini Prix was another Tegan Fitzsimon benefit class. She repeated yesterday’s quinella, but this time it was Alacazam MH’s turn to win. That gave him enough points to take the Canterbury series title too. Double J Monarch was second, and Lucinda Askin and Portofino were third.

The Pony Mini Prix was also a hotly contested event, with Tallyho Scoundrel winning for Grace Manera in a time of 33.34, relegating Olivia Adams and Mr Black Magic to second with their time of 35.18. Georgia Allison and Pioneer High Jinx were third.
