Blyth’s return to Northland

Blyth Tait returned to his old stamping ground of Barge Park this weekend, as course designer for the Northland Horse Trials in Whangarei.

His tracks were impressive, and he was even credited with breaking the drought in the days leading up to the event, which meant that the going was perfect.

Blyth also judged the Style Prize at the event, and awarded this to Ella Poole-Crowe who rode Cleo Parfaite to fifth place in the Oranoa Sport Horses CNC105 for Young Riders. Blyth said: “Ella rode absolutely beautifully, a very stylish and poised round.” He also said that Scout Lodder, who won the class with Pioneer Makokomiko, and Troy Gregerson, who was eighth on Kevin, were right up there too, with some outstanding riding shown by both. Well done to all three of you.

Scout’s mum Dannie took out the top class, the Waitangi Sport Horses CNC2* by a comfortable margin with Sim Kann’s Balmoral Henton, a partnership with a lot of potential. The pair finished second in the CCI2* at Puhinui back in December last year.

Samantha Felton had a good weekend, with two wins and plenty of placings. Samantha grew up mostly in Northland, and is a regular visitor to Barge Park with her team. One of her wins was on board Luminous, a recent acquisition. The 10-year-old grey, by Grasshopper, was previously campaigned by Sim Kann, and was originally produced by Anne-Marie Styles.

Sam was also second in the CNC2* on Ricker Ridge Pico Boo, and won the Equissage CNC80A with Dharma PSH, another who was once in Simone’s stable.

Gemma Hampson and Pintado Prima Rosa won the Dunstan CNC1* by a healthy 10-penalty margin. These two are in great form at the moment.

A big well done to Northland Eventing for not only hosting the event, but also for some great coverage and support of their sponsors on their Facebook page!
