Perfect South Island weather drew the largest crowd in living memory for the biennial St James Station horse sale today. While there were many people who just came for a visit to a stunning part of the world and to view the 27 station-bred horses up for auction, there were plenty of bidders who competed to buy the horses.
Records were broken. The highest price of $10,000 was for an impressive three-year-old gelding, the biggest horse in the sale, a well marked bay gelding. He was bought by veterinarian David Martin, and hopefully will be seen in due course in the Brackenfield hunting field.

The average price was just over $2,200, and all horses were sold with a reserve price of $500 in place. The total revenue far exceeded the 2015 sale.
We will have more coverage in the March edition of NZ Horse and Pony magazine but in the meantime, we hope you enjoy our photos of the day.
If you couldn’t make it to this year’s sale, be sure to mark your diaries for January 2019.
