Sir Mark & Dan heading to sunny Florida!

If you are in cold UK, why wouldn't you head to Florida to compete in a lucrative eventing showcase?

The Land Rover Wellington Eventing Showcase is held in the unique setting of Wellington, Florida (Palm Beach County) and attracts many of the world’s top eventers who will battle it out across two days for the $100,000 on offer. Included in the line-up is top U.S. rider Boyd Martin, who returns as defending champion for the second year running, having won this competition in both 2015 and 2016.

Our own eventing legend, Sir Mark Todd, will be hoping to end Boyd’s run of luck and claim his first victory in Wellington.  He will be joined by Dan Jocelyn and Joe Meyer. Dan finished third last year on catch-ride Devil Munchkin, whom he’d sat on just once before entering the dressage ring. The pair finished on their dressage score of 32.30.

The horse and rider combinations will have to navigate a challenging cross-country course which includes galloping through the VIP hospitality tent, something that has happened at New Zealand’s Horse of the Year show for the last few years.

Competition for the Land Rover Wellington Eventing Showcase will begin with dressage on Friday, February 3. Stadium jumping and cross-country phases of competition will run on Saturday, February 4, with cross-country taking to the field in reverse order of standing.

The cross-country track has been designed by Captain Mark Phillips (GBR) and the show jumping course by 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games designer Richard Jeffery (GBR).

Along with the Land Rover Wellington Eventing Showcase, world-class show jumping will also be on offer with highlights including a CSI 4*. New Zealander Sharn Wordley is expected to compete, along with other elite riders.  There are also polo matches scheduled.

The events are usually live streamed on this link.
