Happy Quimbo

Quimbo, once a 4* winner at Kentucky, is now having a wonderful time cantering around showjumping arenas and looking beautiful.

In amongst all the show jumpers at Woodhill Sands today was a certain handsome black horse competing in the Virbac sand arena with a young rider.

While he didn’t win any ribbons, Quimbo looked like he was really enjoying himself cantering around a 1.10 show jumping track. Every now and then (and especially in the warm-up arena) he would put in a spectacular jump, as if to remind us that he can and has jumped four-star cross-country fences!

Emelia Forsyth, who scored the ride on Charlie Sellar’s horse while she is away, was having a ball riding Quimbo, famous for his Kentucky 4* eventing win in 2013 with Andrew Nicholson.

He jumped a lovely clear first round, but took a rail at the double in the instant jump-off. When asked what it was like riding such a famous horse, Emelia couldn’t stop smiling. “You don’t know how great it is! It’s like CRAZY fun!”

The pair competed yesterday as well and finished seventh in the 1.05 class.

After her ride on Quimbo, Emily was out to compete in the Pony Grand Prix on her Soleado but finished out of the money.
