Special Pony Club celebration

What a great history these grounds have so celebrating forty years should be lots of fun.

In 1994 Bob Fairhurst arranged the purchase and then guaranteed the mortgage so that the Dunedin RDA could have a home, “far away” from the wind and rain-swept hills of Concord, Dunedin.

Saddleview Pony Club (then known as Fernhill Pony Club) was in the position that they had no permanent grounds and nowhere to store their gear. They had been hosted by Ken Scurr on his McMeakin Road, Abbotsford property since 1976 and then moved to another Abbotsford location for a while.

It seemed logical to Bob (Past President of both organisations) that the two groups be able to share the facility and in 1997 a Licence was prepared to formalise the arrangement.

Bob set up the whole thing in good faith to benefit disabled clients while providing for the aims and objects of Pony Club.

Over the years the Flower Street facility has benefitted from much time, goodwill, community funding, and many volunteer hours to develop a once boggy/swampy site to what it is today.

Forty years has galloped by and Saddleview Pony Club is holding a celebration of 40 years of pony club in the Greater Green Island area on Tuesday 13 December 2016 6-8pm at their clubhouse located at the Dunedin Group RDA, 98 Flower Street, Fairfield, Dunedin.

All past, current and intending members and people within the Dunedin community who have an interest or a link to our pony club, members or who are just interested in celebrating with us – you are invited to attend by registering your intention at http://www.sporty.co.nz/saddleviewpc/40-Years-Celebration/Registration-1.

This is an event for the whole family, bring the kids, nana, granddad… Hot food will be available to purchase on the night. There will be a lolly scramble for the kids, a pre-xmas visit by Santa and some fun and games to be had by all. No doubt there’ll be a yarn or two to share from years gone by. There will be cake and a ‘toast’ to history and the future.

It should be a great night of celebrating history and building futures.
