The Land Rover Horse of the Year showing section hit fever-pitch today with the much-anticipated Pony of the Year titles handed out, along with the first ridden titles.

Once again, the Cadwallader family from Auckland dominated, securing five of the nine titles on offer.

“It’s been another amazing show,” says mum Nanette Cadwallader. “To win what we have won today has been huge. It’s been a massive team effort, and I am so proud of them all.”

Mia Cadwallader (9) got the ball rolling for ‘Team Caddy’, picking up the first title of the morning in the First Ridden Pony Rider of the Year aboard the ultra-consistent Eastdale Diva. She followed that up with a decisive win in the First Ridden Pony of the Year, backing up from securing the Lead Rein title last year, with Brooklyn Ranking and Windsor English’e Kisses, reserve.

Also in the First Ridden section, eight-year-old Zoe Garland (Te Awamutu) won the Paced & Mannered Pony of the Year class on Taurimu Da Vince.

Meanwhile, in ring one, Trey Cadwallader (13) guided the smart four-year-old mare, Rosehill Park Sapphire, to victory in the Large Saddle Hunter Pony of the Year, with Brenna Tait and KS Heavenly Rose, reserve.

The Cadwalladers have had ‘Saffy’, as she’s affectionately known, since last September. She was bred by Joann Klusterman and is by the stallion Burren-dah The Wizard out of Lorken Park Applause, who was a former winner at HOY. Cadwallader family friend Fiona Honeyman rode her to success in the Rising Star Large Saddle Hunter Pony of the Year on Wednesday.

Trey was also reserve in the Medium Show Pony of the Year with last year’s winner Leeara Park First Edition, behind Paihiatua’s Ella Rankin (14) on Penmain Lily of the Valley. It was the last show for the gorgeous Australian-bred mare, who is owned by Sarah Bostock of KS Show Horses, before returning to the broodmare paddock.

The Cadwalladers’ winning streak continued with elder sister Brooke taking out the Small Saddle Hunter Pony of the Year on the 15-year-old Nanteos Autumn Guardsman, with Matisse Masterton and Kinloch Tansy, reserve.

Later in the afternoon Brooke returned to the winner’s circle once again, taking out the Small Show Pony of the Year not exceeding 128cm with the indefatigable Eastdale Diva, giving the pony her sixth win in the class with three different pilots. Reserve went to Amelia Malcolm-Solly with the lovely Corview Kingston.

In the Medium Saddle Hunter Pony of the Year, a delighted Danielle Peck (10) of Orewa,  made a winning debut at HOY taking the honours with Tui’s Keepsake, with Mikayla Wildermoth and Jym-Aud Dew Drop Mahogany, reserve.

In the Large Show Pony of the Year, Cambridge’s Billie Roach (14) ticked off one of her biggest goals for the season aboard Linden Fine Art, taking the title, with last year’s winners, Rebecca Aplin and Woodlands Park Light O Day, having to settle for reserve.
