Guess who’s in front at Pau?

Michael Jung takes an early lead at the last CCI4* of the European season, at Pau

Olympic, world and intergalactic eventing champion Michael Jung has taken the lead after the first day of dressage at Etoiles de Pau, the last CCI4* of the season, riding fischerRocana FST.

With a trademark soft and accurate test, Micheal and the lovely mare scored 70.78%, or 43.8pen, which put them 2.1pen ahead of second-placed Laura Collett, of Great Britain, and Pamero 4, with fellow Brit Kirsty Johnston and Opposition Dectective not far behind in third. Boyd Martin (USA) is fourth on Cracker Jack, and Tina Cook rounds up the top five for the Brits on Calvino II.

Geoffroy Soullez is the best of the home side, sixth on Qokory Ko.

The only New Zealander riding today was Caroline Powell, on the up-and-coming Spice Sensation, and she scored 61.05% for 58.4pen to sit in 17th place.

Australia’s current eventing star Christopher Burton will be disappointed with his test on former Adeladie 4* winner TS Jamaimo, scoring 59.83% to sit 22nd, so it’s unlikely that ‘Burto’ will be adding the Pau crown to the Burghley title he won in September.

Jock Paget, Tim Price and Caroline on her second horse all ride their dressage tests tomorrow.
