Lizzie Brown and Freddie Green have announced their engagement here in New Zealand during a whirlwind visit.

Lizzie, an accomplished eventer herself is not only marrying into eventing royalty but she is marrying a rock star! Freddie is none other than the son of Lucinda and David Green. Lucinda (nee Prior-Palmer) is a living legend in eventing, with six Badminton wins, two at Burghley, individual World Champion in 1982 and a member of the silver-medal-winning British Olympic team that year too.  She is a sought-after coach and often visits New Zealand to run clinics.  David has represented Australia in eventing on many occasions, and was part of the gold-medal-winning team at Barcelona Olympics in 1992. He now lives in Australia.   Freddie’s sister, Lissa, is an accomplished eventer in the UK and is building a nice team.

Freddie hasn’t been one for the horses, but he is a drummer in The Dirty Youth. This very popular five-piece rock band have just released their second album, have over 7 million YouTube views, have graced many festival stages and regularly tour Europe and the UK.

The couple recently arrived in New Zealand, giving Lizzie’s parents quite a surprise. That got people speculating that an engagement may be imminent and sure enough, Lizzie and Freddie announced via Facebook that Freddie had popped the question at Raglan beach in the Waikato, and Lizzie had said yes!

We haven’t yet heard whether the couple have set a date for the wedding, or whether Lizzie Brown will become Lizzie Green, but we think they are a lovely young couple, and wish them all the best for their future.
